Aren’t stopped sewers such an botheration?.

You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your feet. It’s definitely not a very good feeling! A clogged drain pipe sounds horrible to begin with. What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drain!. Nobody likes to deal with obstructed drainage because they are a real hassle and they give an impression of being unsanitary (because they are). Yet many residential bathrooms or kitchen will suffer from a clogged drainpipe incident at one particular point or another. But there are ways to unblock bathroom drainage easily and can make this unenviable job a lot easier.

What causes a clogged up drain?.

Clogging occurs when substances like hair, dust and other bits and pieces get trapped in the region where the bathroom drainpipe is connected to the main drain pipe. The problem is further exacerbated when household products such as soaps, detergents, shampoos and conditioners and others are allowed to build up on the growing accumulation. As the mass grows, it restricts the free flow of water, and the drainpipe eventually becomes choked. If your sink or tub fills up fast with water while it should have drained out quickly, you could be in for a serious case of clogged up pipes.

How do you unblock your drains?.

If you want your water to start running freely then there are a few things you can do to rectify the problem. Whether you are working with a sink or a bath drain pipe, the first step to take is to remove the stopper. In the case of the bathroom sink, you can remove the stopper by either pulling it out, unscrewing the nuts that hold it in proper position. In the case of a bath, an overflow plate may have to be detached so that the entire assembly can be opened up, or there may be provision to unscrew the plug at the drainpipe itself.

Once you remove the stopper, you may then be able to see the source of the clog. You are most likely to see bunch of hair and other debris entangled in a blockage. Reach down into the pipe and pull out as much as possible. If it is difficult to reach the area where the blockage is located, or difficult to grasp the mass, simply use a bent wire clothes hanger to help you do the job. As soon as the blockage is removed, water will start running freely through the drain pipe.

If, after exposing the drain, you observe that the blockage is not close enough for removal with the wire you have, then you will need to find another way. Use a drain pipe plunger to loosen the blockage that is deeper down the pipework. To use the plunger the overflow drain pipe should be covered first with the help of a wet cloth, this will make the suction stronger and make it harder for air to enter the pipes. Next, place the plunger directly over the drain opening and methodically pulse the plunger up and down several times. Hopefully, after doing this and once the plunger is taken away, any water should flow freely down the drain pipe as the vacuum created shifted the obstruction.

However, if this method also fails to have any affect you might have to use some sort of chemical cleaner. Chemicals should be applied only after all else fails because they are treacherous and can damage your bathroom hardware.

Call in the drains Professionals.

If the above methods fail to solve your clogged up drain problem then you may have to contact a plumber. Plumbers should have equipment that can help unblock drainage quickly and easily. Though it won’t come cheaply, an experienced plumber’s help can provide peace of mind.
