Domestic waste drain blockage problem.?

I live in one of 3 strata units and we seem to have waist/sewer pipe blockages. That is, in the line that goes past all our units to the main line located at the rear of the property.

It seems we need to get the drain mechanically cleared about every 2 years. I think there may be a problem with roots invading this drain line somewhere.

Short of replacing the affected section of the drain (eg. where the joints between the clay pipes may be letting the roots in), how useful are products like Rootox (copper sulphate?) or Actizyme (pellets) be?

Any other suggestions about products, materials or means that may help discourage this root invasion problem?
