Domestic waste drain blockage problem.?

I live in one of 3 strata units and we seem to have waist/sewer pipe blockages. That is, in the line that goes past all our units to the main line located at the rear of the property.

It seems we need to get the drain mechanically cleared about every 2 years. I think there may be a problem with roots invading this drain line somewhere.

Short of replacing the affected section of the drain (eg. where the joints between the clay pipes may be letting the roots in), how useful are products like Rootox (copper sulphate?) or Actizyme (pellets) be?

Any other suggestions about products, materials or means that may help discourage this root invasion problem?

It probably is from the roots and the reason it has to be attended two every couple years is because the roots regrow. When it is cleaned they use a tool with blades on it to cut the roots. If you use something to keep the roots from growing you will end up killing the tree who’s roots have entered the pipe. best thing to do dig the area cut the roots back as far as you can without hurting the tree and replace the pipe that is bad. Doing the job right will do away with the problem and give you that piece of mind your looking for. You will not have to worry when is it going to clog again.

Once you get a roo0t problem there is only one way to cure and that is to remove the old pipe and lay down a new pipe for the drain and that cost money. Hopefully you can remove only the part that is real bad and cut your cost down in half.
I had to do it on my property and they dug deep and the entire inside was root bound.
I’ve never had a problem since.
    The total cost…ready for this?

    $2,500.89

Dont listen to Paul H…If you cant put chemicals on the small roots in the pipe cuz you’ll kill the tree then why would you be able to cut back the bigger roots without killing the tree? Not very bright…

The products out there that say they kill roots usually dont. The best bet, and ESPECIALLY since you have clay pipe, is to replace the pipe. I know you dont wanna hear that but with clay pipe roots get in there more than any other pipe material. This is simply the best solution…..replacement
