How much will it cost to unblock a drain?
Our toilet hasn’t been flushing very well so we lifted up the` manhole cover in the garden and it’s blocked up with nasty stuff! Will call Dyno Rod or similar but was wondering how much I should expect to pay. Don’t want to be ripped off. I’m in the West London area
Thanks everyone, I called the council and they told me to call Thames water who sorted it for free!

Hi there, There’s a drain in the patio outside my property that drains away rainwater from the two flats above and also my patio area. This morning I got up and noticed there’s a large pool of water (2 or more inches deep) around it, and the water’s not going down. There were some leaves around it, but I moved those and it still won’t drain, so there must be a blockage further down in the drain. My dad recommended buying a device with a handle on top that screws a flexible wire into the drain to break up the blockage, whereas someone in work told me to buy some drain rods and use those. Can anyone tell me which is the best for this type of job, and where I can get them from. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers...
hi
we live in the northwest and we called dyno rod out for the drains, they charged £110.00 to just have a look and try to blow them through. when you ring you can ask how much is the call out charge and then how much to blow drains through.
the council charged us 50 pounds to do ours,i think they will be cheaper than a private company(we are in a privately owned house)
It cost me £176 a few weeks ago.
WOW!!!! From the answers you have so far, plumbers in the UK are very expensive. Here in USA I have paid $95 to have a drain cleaned out. I ‘m not sure what the pound ratio is but I guess that’s about ,,,maybe 30 pounds???
Get your hose and put the spray on at it most powerful,it will move all the gunge and clear the blockage.Alternatively, fill a bucket of water and violently throw it at the blockage, the mass movement of water will sift it
hire a pressure washer for thirty quid, for a weekends hire and blast the problem away you will probebly need a karcher hot and cold washer available from all hire shops
You should be able to hire drain rods and shift the blockage for around 30 quid. Otherwise a pressure washer and a drain cleaning attachment often does the job. Work upwards from the unblocked drain.
Minimum of 100 quid in London.
use to use a lesser-known brand. It’ll be cheaper.
Dyno Rod are very expensive. The call out charge alone is more than some plumbers charge for the whole job.
The price should be between £50 – £200 ,
Most blockages can be rodded . But many company’s are very quick to get the power jet out (you have to pay extra when they use it) .
