It is remarkably distressing to deal with clogged drains.

This has happened to all of us – the water fast submerging our toes while are taking a shower. A blocked drain is in action. Imagine you are brushing your teeth and you notice that the sink is already half filled with water, Yuck!. Clearing clogged drainage is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drains make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drainage are). However, most household bathrooms will experience a clogged up drainpipe at some time and one time or another. The most preferred approach is to prepare ahead of time for such a predicament by educating oneself on how to fix bathroom drainage when the drain pipes become stopped.

Why Do They Happen?.

They get plugged when dust, hair and other particles get entrapped between the pipes inside the bathroom drainpipe. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already clogged up drainage. Eventually this will become more and more dense and this is what prevents your water flowing uninhibited through your drain pipe. If the water has started building up quickly in your tub or sink, then without delay you should unblock the drain.

So how can you unclog these drains?.

If you’re facing a clogged bathroom sink or bath drain pipe problem, there are a couple of different things you can do to get things running smoothly again. The first thing you will have to do is take out the stopper of the blocked sink or drain pipe. For a bathroom sink, if you have a traditional style plug this is an easy enough job, but if you have an integrated plug you will have to look under the sink to remove the nut that keeps it attached. With your bath tub, you can either unscrew the stopper right at the drain pipe or removing the overflow plate to remove the assembly.

The removal of the plug may allow you to spot the cause for the blockage. Chances are you’ll see a clump of hair mixed with other materials just below the drainpipe. Put on a pair of gloves and extract whatever blockages comes within reach. You may find it difficult to get at the blockage, in which case you could use something like a wire clothes hanger to fish the material out. Removing the hair, detergent residues and the rest of the material will surely solve your problem.

However other methods can be used in case the clog is unreachable even with a hanger. A very useful tool is a drainpipe plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. Begin by covering the overflow drainpipe with a wet towel so as to create a stronger suction from the plunger. Next, place the plunger directly over the drain pipe opening and methodically pulse the plunger up and down several times. As soon as you release the plunger, the trapped water may drain away immediately.

Even the plunger may not clear the most dense and hardened matter inside your plumbing – that’s when you will have to deploy a chemical drain pipe clearing product. However this should be your last resort because the chemicals used can harm your bathroom fittings and accessories, they are corrosive.

Call a professional plumber if all else fails.

If all the do-it-yourself methods fail, then call a plumber experienced in drains work to do the needful. A professional plumber should quickly solve your problem with his special tools and equipment. Although availing plumber services can be a costly proposal it gives you the much needed peace of mind as the water starts flowing and the mess is cleaned up.
