Solve your jammed drains troubles

This has happened to all of us – the water fast submerging our feet while are taking a shower. A blocked drainpipe, quite disgusting and a sign of problems to come!. Or while brushing your teeth by the sink, all of a sudden the sink starts to fill up. Nobody likes to deal with obstructed drains because they are a real hassle and they give an impression of being unsanitary (because they are). But the fact is that sooner or later, a bathroom drain is going to become stopped or suffer a stoppage. But there are ways to unblock bathroom drainage easily and can make this unenviable job a lot easier.

Why Do They Happen?.

Blocked drainage can result from trapped solid objects such as hair, dust and particles between your bathroom drainpipe and the attached pipes. Everyday products like soaps, shampoos, detergents and so on add to the problem by building up around the solid material. When the offending mass becomes too dense to allow any water to flow through freely, the problem is identified as a clogged drain pipe. So, if you are finding the water isn’t flowing freely through your drainpipe resulting in water rising quickly in your bath or sink chances are that you have a blockage in your plumbing system.

How do you unblock your drains?.

You can do a number of things to unblock your bathtub or bathroom sink drainpipe. First of all the stopper should be removed. In case of a bathroom sink, the plug can be removed easily with a simple pull or it might need the complex effort of unlocking the hook keeping it in place from under the sink. With your bath tub, you can either unscrew the plug right at the drain pipe or removing the overflow plate to remove the assembly.

It is important to remove the plug because only then you can view the things that are clogging the drain pipe inside the drains pipe. Chances are you’ll see a clump of hair mixed with other materials just below the drain pipe. Put on a pair of gloves and extract whatever clogs comes within reach. Use a wire from a clothes hangar or some other apparatus if you have difficulties reaching the clog or grabbing the build up so that you can pull it out. There is a good chance that by removing this mass of material the problem will be rectified and your water will flow smoothly.

If you need to disassemble the drain and notice that the blockage is not even within reach of a wire hanger, you will have to try another method. A very useful tool is a drain plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. In the first step, use a wet cloth to cover the overflowing drain pipe, and then use the plunger; this will make the suction stronger. Next, place the plunger directly over the drainpipe opening and methodically pulse the plunger up and down several times. You may find that this suction-push action of the plunger loosens the clogged debris down the pipe and the collected water now drains freely.

If the plunger also fails to clean your bathroom drain, then you should take the help of chemical drain pipe cleaner. This method should only be used as a last resort because the chemicals used are dangerous and can be harmful to your bathroom fixtures.

Get skilled help if this is necessary, call in a drains contractor.

If all the do-it-yourself methods fail, then call a plumber experienced in drainage work to do the needful. Plumbers have special equipment to clean the blocked drains speedily and effortlessly such as a drainage snake, drainage contractors also employ water jetting to clear blockages and cctv drains cameras to view inside the drain. It might cost you some money, but a plumber’s expertise can give quite a relief with this type of messy household problem.
